Posted on Aug 21, 2017

Jim Mumford of Good Earth Plant Company joins the lineup of featured presenters at the upcoming AIGA San Diego and SEGD San Diego “Art, Commerce and Design” event at the Mingei International Museum on Wednesday, September 13.

In connection with the museum’s newest exhibit, KANBAN–Traditional Shop Signs of Japan, this night features a “crafty line-up of speakers that will explore contemporary themes of retail environments and graphic design in a series of quickfire presentations.

Moss walls can fit in any space under conditions where a living wall isn’t feasible. Contact Good Earth Plants if we can add one to your office OR your home!

Arrive early for refreshments and to see local craftspeople demonstrating their work in calligraphy, woodworking, and traditional sign making.

KANBAN, a fusion of art and commerce, refers to the traditional signs Japanese merchants displayed street side to advertise their presence, denote the products and services to be found inside, and to give individual identity and expression to the shop itself. Mingei’s current exhibition beautifully displays many historic examples of this traditional art from Japan. In modern times, while traditional forms of signage are still used to market products, the needs of contemporary society and advances in material and technology have changed how that message reaches the audience.
