Ho Ho Ho!
The holidays are upon us. The Good Earth Elves have been busy decorating our clients’ homes and businesses for the season, including our custom creations for commercial clients Qualcomm and Illumina.
My busy travel schedule not only taught me a lot, it made me appreciate San Diego even more than I already do. Out of the four conferences, I thoroughly enjoyed Nashville (it was cold – 28 degrees) and the Cities Alive Conference. Lots of Jim in Plants conversations about green roofs and living walls (vertical gardens) and how to design them, what system and plants to use and how to maintain them long term. My colleagues all agree that quality maintenance is key to a living wall performing well.
Denver and the American Society of Landscape Architects Conference was equally enjoyable. It was fun running into folks from San Diego in a faraway city. Lots and lots of green roof and living wall systems were in the trade show along with a number of planter and pottery suppliers. I got to visit with my sister and brother in law and even my dad and Christine. We all went over to the Botanic Gardens and saw an amazing display of Chihuly glass. My latest find at the trade show? Self-contained, super safe (even inside) and easy to use – fire pits. We can simply drop them into a pot, add gravel and away we go.
As 2014 comes to a close, I cannot say enough about how much I value and appreciate my team. They work hard, take great care of our clients and in turn, make me look good. I can travel without worry and manage without having to know every last detail.
I hope you, your family, friends and colleagues are all safe, healthy and happy as you celebrate the season!
